Dr Alkesh Zala is a Specialist Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist with clinical experience in managing complex gastrointestinal disorders.
Dr Zala completed his training at the John Hunter Hospital and obtained his Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP).
He currently works as a Staff Specialist at the John Hunter Hospital and performs diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures.
Dr Zala’s interests include general gastroenterology, oesophageal reflux disease, gastrointestinal motility disorders and inflammatory bowel disease.
He offers diagnostic and interventional endoscopy for investigation and management of gastrointestinal bleeding and colorectal cancer surveillance.
He is Conjoint research fellow at the University of Newcastle and also actively involved in training junior medical staff, nursing staff and medical students at the John Hunter Hospital.
Dr Zala also holds a fellowship in General and acute care medicine with the Royal Australasian college of Physicians and believes in providing high quality specialist services across a spectrum of health and illness that is not limited by the boundaries of medical subspecialties. He feels that the most enjoyable parts of his work are forming long-term relationships with patients with chronic complex medical problems and providing holistic care.
