Palliative Care

Palliative care services have commenced at Warners Bay Private Hospital. Six bedrooms have recently been upgraded to accommodate end stage palliative care patients. Our fully equipped ‘family room’ has also been renovated for family to visit for a cup of coffee, for use as a meeting room with the Social Worker or Doctor, or just a place to take a break and relax during this difficult time. Patients within their last stages of life with private health insurance incorporating palliative care treatment or Department of Veterans’ Affairs patients are all candidates for admission to Warners Bay Private Hospital for this level of care.

Patients admitted to Warners Bay Private Hospital for end stage palliative care will be treated by Dr Allan Kirkpatrick or Dr Julie Mallinson.

Allan is passionate about providing good palliative care to patients, believing that he is not just treating a patient, but treating the entire family. He believes that relieving the patient’s pain and other symptoms relieves distress from families during a period in their lives that is stressful enough.

Julie has for the last ten years worked primarily in Aged Care Facilities caring for those with chronic disease. In 2018 Julie completed the Clinical Diploma of Palliative Medicine at Calvary Mater Hospital and now works in several Aged Care Facilities as well as Palliative Care settings. She has a passion for improving the lives of older Australians and for caring for those needing symptom management and support as they navigate chronic and incurable disease.
